The Opole Puppet and Actor Theatre is one of the most important puppet stages in Poland, valued by both critics and audiences across the country. For years, it has delighted with performances for children, youth, and adults, combining tradition with modernity.
Founded in 1937 by Alojzy Smolka, the theatre has been a place of creative meetings for many outstanding artists since the beginning. Every two years, since 1962, it organizes the National Festival of Puppet Theatres — a unique event showcasing the most interesting and innovative achievements in contemporary form theatre. The festival attracts artists from all over Poland to Opole and turns the city into a colorful, lively theatrical celebration.
In 2014, the theatre underwent a spectacular transformation – a modern building, a true architectural masterpiece, was designed to meet the demands of artists and the expectations of audiences for generations to come.
